Population datasets: Source of data and controlled vocabulary

This page describes the source of data and controlled vocabulary (CV) that is used in AFND.

Note: The standardisation of ontologies and CV is currently being undertaken by the IDAWG and HLA-NET groups. Ongoing implementations include the standardisation of geographical regions and definition of population names.

Controlled vocabulary

AFND uses several fields to classify and organize the population datasets. In this section we describe the CV that we use in the website. Click on the links below to consult the CV used for each category.

1) Geographical region

To organise the populations datasets we have assigned a geographical region to each country as shown in Figure 1. We advise individuals to use this classification when submitting a new population in AFND. As part of data standardisation, this classification is under revision by the IDAWG and HLA-NET consortiums. These regions were selected with advice from Steven J. Mack from the IDAWG consortium.
